I think we can all agree that fall is the best season out there. There is nothing better than a warm cup of hot chocolate on a brisk, late September morning. Or maybe your favorite part is spending hours to craft that perfect costume to impress your friends on Halloween. But who could forget about stuffing your face with all the best turkey-day food and then dozing off to sleep, falling victim to the infamous tryptophan?
Here we are in the middle of October with two more months of fall left to enjoy. I set out with a friend to enjoy the best fall-themed activities this weekend, ending with a happy stomach and heart. Here’s what I found.
Breaking my PVDonuts virginity was one of the best parts of this weekend, despite having to wake up at the crack of dawn and waiting for what seemed like forever–which was really only forty-five minutes–for the tasty treats. Pictured below are their pumpkin hazelnut brown butter, maple banana walnut, and coffee milk brioche donuts as well as their brown sugar apple cider donut. Each donut was crafted to perfection and at a surprisingly great price–all were under three dollars each! Check out their October menu before they sell out!
After the sweet breakfast, we took a trip down the road to Massimo Providence, where I enjoyed a brunch of ravioli di zucca–pumpkin ravioli in a butternut squash cream, topped with pancetta, goat cheese, sage, and toasted pumpkin seeds. With a sophisticated, yet cozy and bright atmosphere, Massimo was a ten out of ten.
Exhausted from awakening so early, we skipped out on the proverbial corn maze. Instead, we watched all our favorite Halloween classics–A Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, and of course Halloweentown. You can never go wrong here.
But the star of the show was by far experiencing the Jack-O’-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Zoo, showcasing over 5000 intricately carved pumpkins, shown in the pictures below. The spectacular takes you through each era from the age of the dinosaur’s to the twenty-first century. The ingenuity and attention to detail is mesmerizing and something I would recommend to all ages. If you want to shake it up definitely add this to your fall activity regimen!
