PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Rhode Island beauty queen has lost her world-spanning crown.Anea Garcia, who as Miss Rhode Island finished third in the 2015 Miss USA pageant, was stripped of her most recent title of Miss Grand International for failing to meet the requirements of the job. Garcia, 21, a student at Roger Williams University who grew up in Cranston, has a double major in legal studies and philosophy with the hope of becoming a prosecutor, according to the Miss USA website. She won the Miss Grand International pageant in October, representing the Dominican Republic at the event, held in Thailand.”I’m sorry, I won’t be giving any comments now,” Garcia said when reached by phone Friday.Teresa Chaivisut, vice-president of MGI, criticized Garcia in an additional statement given to the pageant website Global Beauties.”First, her studies were in the way, making it very hard for us to schedule her activities. At several times we had to reschedule, cancel events, change or lose international flights,” Chaivisut wrote. “Miss Grand International should be ready and focused on her job and charitable work.” (Providence Journal)
Yeah that’s not a joke. Anea Garcia literally got her title stripped after pageant organizers thought she was spending too much time focusing on school and not enough time doing pageant stuff. As if pageant people weren’t hated enough. These people put on fancy suits and act like their shit doesn’t stink, when all they do is evaluate people based on their hotness and their cliche answers to cliche questions. Im not against beauty pageants, I too am a fan of looking at attractive women (guilty), but how are you gonna encourage women to do good things in the world, then strip them of their title when they focus too much on school and not enough promoting beauty pageants? Is that not the most hypocritical thing you’ve ever seen? Anea is a double-major at RWU, no shit she’s up to her neck in schoolwork. But no, according to the pageant people, if you don’t dedicate the rest of your life to beauty pageants, they’ll chew you up and spit you out on the street. It’s ludicrous, it really is.
Anea, as a friend (can we be friends?) and local blogger, Im here for you if you ever need to talk about this/ egg some of these pageant peoples houses. You know, fun stuff that will eventually lead to us dating. But on a serious note, hopefully this will open up some eyes about how stupid these pageants can be. I agree that pageants do have some good to offer, but I can’t get on board with a college student getting a title stripped from them because they focused their time to better their education. They should want the best for all their contestants and clearly they did not in this case.
