Man Uses Twitter to Convince Town that He is their Mayor

Look, we’ve all fallen victim to a carefully crafted Twitter hoax. These things happen. So we’ll try not to rag on the residents of Stafford, England, too much for letting some guy with a fake Twitter account convince them he was their mayor. Especially because, from the looks of it, he was pretty darn convincing. The man created a profile with the following bio: “I’m James Billington, the current Mayor of Stafford. Delighted to be representing the town of Stafford & surrounding areas. Views are my own.” He began tweeting on March 8, and soon enough, convinced residents and local businesses that he was the mayor.

Thats the power of social media for ya. Nothing like ruling your city via internet. You get all the perks of being mayor without having to do any actual mayor work. You can’t ask for anything better than that. While the actual mayor is busy deciding what to spend tax money on and preaching to old people to get their vote, this guy is just sitting at home, tweeting mayor stuff and people are buying every word he says. Its amazing how stupid people can be for actually believing this. Don’t get me wrong I would absolutely fall for it to. I have no idea who my mayor is. You dont just post a picture of yourself cutting a rope and not convince me your the mayor. What more can I say about this guy? He wanted to be mayor. He found the biggest shortcut of all time. He did everything fake mayors are suppose to do. Nothing to do but tip your hat to the guy.
