PC Preps For Tourney

Providence College takes on UNC Friday night in San Antonio in a “second round” game of the NCAA tournament (don’t call it the second round), their first appearance since 2003-2004. They claimed the Big East title, their first in twenty years (93-94 I was quite the infant), by upsetting Creighton 65-58. This PC team only had two wins over ranked teams (both Creighton), but then again they only had one loss that I would classify as bad. And it was against Nova. The loss to Seton Hall was disappointing, but at least it was a tight game. This team was almost written off by many in the media three months ago as former star recruit Kris Dunn suffered another setback, with a shoulder injury that has held him out the whole season. “I’m finna play bruh, but mufuckas don’t think I can still ball with my shit all fucked up, wachu need two arms for realistically though,” Said Dunn (not really). Bryce Cotton has carried the team all season leading in scoring at 21.4 a game, and minutes. Dude plays 39.9 mpg (…), total workhorse.

This UNC team is toooough though. They were just on a tear that had them ascending rapidly through the rankings but recently have cooled off a little. This is a team that may surprise people and go deep. Their combination of length and athleticism helps them tremendously as they disrupt passing lanes and move the ball well in transition. James Michael McAdoo is streaky, as the whole team is, but very dangerous. Kadeem Batts and Tyler Harris will have to contain him for PC to have a chance. Bryce Cotton will have to be quite the playmaker against the long UNC backcourt of J.P. Tokoto, Leslie McDonald, and star point guard Marcus Paige. Kennedy Meeks will be the X Factor though. That boy nice.

My prediction: UNC 73-64 PC
