The 19-8 Providence Friars will travel to New Jersey to face the 19-7 Seton Hall Pirates Thursday, February 25th at 7:00 PM EST.
The Pirates have already defeated Providence this year at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Providence at the time was the No. 12 team in the nation. The story of that game was points in the paint. As Seton Hall outscored the Friars 38-26 in the paint and outrebounded them 50-36.
Providence will have to do a better job of defending down low, and make sure everyone is involved in the rebounding in order not to suffer the same result.
The Friars are coming off a defeat to No.5 Xavier, and Seton Hall is coming off a narrow victory over St. Johns.
A victory is needed for each team, as the Friars are on a 5-7 slide over the past 12 games, while a victory for Seton Hall would really boost their tournament chances. As of right now the Friars are listed as a 7 seed in ESPN’s most recent mock bracket and Seton Hall is listed as a 10 seed.
Providence: Ben Bentil- The sophomore forward leads the Big East in scoring, at a clip of 20.3 per game. He is also in the top 5 in rebounding at 7.7 per game. He will have to stay out of foul trouble if the Friars want to win, due to the team’s lack of depth down low.
Seton Hall: Isaiah Whitehead- He leads the team with 16.6 points per game and 4.8 assists. He has increased his season averages across the board in his sophomore season and has really become a potent offensive threat. He also brings his talents to the defensive side, averaging 1.2 blocks as a guard and 1.2 steals per game.
