As Providence College fights to earn a spot in the NCAA March Madness tournament, a win on the road against #23 Creighton Wednesday night would go a long way. With under 10 seconds to go, Providence struggled to find an open look from underneath the hoop. Looking for a desperation three pointer, Providence G Isiah Jackson dished it out to Kyron Cartwright who took a shot from beyond NBA three point range. He sunk the shot with only 2.4 seconds left on the clock, giving the Friars a two point lead and ultimately the win. The final score was Providence 68 Creighton 66.
“I would say it’s the biggest win of the year,” said PC coach Ed Cooley, “seeing where we are, basically in the middle of the pack in the Big East. This will definitely help us and hopefully help us get back to the NCAA Tournament.”
Providence has seen the NCAA March Madness for the past two years, but departed early both times. With an overall record of 17-11 and a conference record of 7-8, Providence hopes to win their final three games, make some noise in the Big East tournament, and ultimately earn a spot in college basketball’s top 64 once again.
