NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University men’s lacrosse team hosted its first ever Fall Lacrosse Contest with the Hawks of Becker College and the Mustangs of Mount Ida College this past Sunday October 18, 2015. The three way round robin play-date benefited the Newport Martin Luther King Community Center Food Pantry. Every fall, for eight years, the Salve Regina University men’s lacrosse team has donated to help the MLK Food Pantry. The Martin Luther King Center provides, year round, vital community services for those in need.
Great job by the Salve men’s lax team for putting this together for a good cause. Not only did the Fall Classic raise awareness about the MLK Center, the team was also able to raise nearly $500 to donate to the food pantry. The MLK Center in Newport is one of the only community centers in the area, providing people with support for their family. They offer multiple programs to help people in Newport County improve their lives as well as provide them with emergency food.
